LOC has launched a pilot program by adding photos to Flickr and has asked the public to participate by¬†adding tags. The cool thing about this project is that, for the time being, the photos have “no known copyright restrictions.”

I try not to pick up posts from Boing Boing, since it’s pretty redundant to do so, but some guy made a chart of books that make you dumb.

You can see without looking for too long that the chart is problematic. Yet, I am also pleased to report that 100 Years of Solitude is one of my favorite books.

A great story about one of the first female computer programmers, A Technical Camelot. I think I may have seen Jean’s image, standing next to the ENIAC when I was taking my computer history classes as an undergraduate. In class I learned that women did most of the programming– they were presented as, like, secretaries of the machine (hardly!).

But Jean articulates her experience much better than I could. This was a great piece of nearly lost history to come across.

The podcast comes from American Public Media’s The Story.
